This Hello Kitty book features many detachable stickers that your child, or even a Valentine inclined grown up, places on the images of the story line using her or his creative imagination !!!
As with any Hello Kitty book, this one is filled with cute illustrations and vibrant colors.
Hello Kitty's school class (which based on the illustrations consists of all her friends and no one else, lol, not even her twin sister!) is celebrating Valentine's Day. They all make mailboxes to receive their Valentines and the Valentines to give to others. Then the big day comes. They peek at their mailboxes throughout the day and Hello Kitty isn't seeing anything in hers. Then they have a party with heart-shaped cookies and pink lemonade. Finally, it is time to open the Valentines and Hello Kitty's box is empty. She sits quietly. Then Fifi realizes half of the Valentines in her box are for Hello Kitty! They decorated their mailboxes very similarly, and in children's-book-land that means everyone put two Valentines into one box and none into another box, with initials, sitting in a row in cubbies.... The anthropomorphic animals are fine, but this point requires suspension of disbelief for a while.
Overall it turned out to be a very good story though about disappointment and misunderstandings and handling it all with grace. Plus all the cute Valentine's day festiveness! (I especially liked the spiral streamers with little hearts hanging from the ceiling.)
In this Hello Kitty Story, Kitty is excited for Valentines day, and puts a lot of care into making her heart-shaped Valentines. When Kitty arrives at school though, she discovers that her Valentine box is empty. Kitty wonders if her friends have forgotten her, but when the class is sharing their Valentines, Kathy, Kitty's classmate, opens her box and discovers that she accidentally received both her and Kitty's Valentines.
I rated this book highly because it is adorable and full of mystery. What happened to Kitty's valentines?! This would make a great read aloud for Valentines day, after which students could decorate their own heart shaped cookies to share with the class. Students could also identify the different types of animals in the book and learn about each one. Students could also make their own Valentines boxes with patterns and shapes.
A cute story - actually cute! - with a little bit of a mystery to solve. (I guessed wrong. :p)
Although I do have to point out that if the expectation is that you give a Valentine to everyone in your class, nobody should be too worried about getting *none.*
Young fans of Hello Kitty will love this happy ending story! Illustrations are typical Hello Kitty- very nice! I've been a fan since way back when (so has my daughter), so we may be prejudiced! Lol!
