Stroll through time in Charleston's beautifully preserved Historic District or head North for fun and games on Myrtle Beach. For a hard earned rest hightail it to Kiawah Island or get a Gullah meal to go, and picnic at Hunting Island State Park. Sights within must sees Charleston, Savannah and the South Carolina Coast are grouped according to Michelin's time-honored star-rating system, which for more than 100 years has guided travelers to the best a place has to offer. The Michelin Man symbol represents the top picks for activities, entertainment, where to eat, and where to stay.
This book was very helpful while planning my recent vacation to Charleston & Savannah, with the caveat that the information it contains is mostly about Charleston. The other locations covered (the Grand Strand, Savannah, and the Golden Isles) are insufficient in planning your trip, as they are just too short. On the other hand, pros include accurate (if tiny) maps, high quality paper, as well as full color photographs.
This book is a good tool to have if you're planning a trip to Charleston, maybe even Savannah, but I would strongly suggest you complement it with the much better (in every way) Charleston & Savannah, by Moon.
I'm not sure whether I should say that I read this book, since it is more of a reference book. But I did refer to it often during my recent trip to Charleston & Savannah. As a reference librarian, I have looked at several different publications of this type, but Michelin is new to me. It is very well organized with short descriptions of places to visit. There are list of "must-sees" for each city and things that would appeal to children, especially. The small size makes it easy to slip into a purse or bag. My only criticism is that the bulk of the book refers to Charleston and Savannah is somewhat slighted. I will look for this series when I travel in the future and recommend it to anyone traveling.
