A fun read with charming characters set in Oxford, England during the 1920s. The author Rose Donovan offers a unique perspective on feminine issues through the interactions of her two main characters, Ruby and her faithful friend Fina.
The two students, cum investigators, are requested by the college Dean to discover who is knicking the frames students lingerie, while sleuthing to discover the murderer of the boisterous and unctuous politician who visits the campus. While Fina is framed and confined in jail, Ruby parries wits with the police to find the real killer.
Also, two new characters are introduced: Ruby's brother and a journalist.

Rose Donovan writes a great mystery
I love mysteries I am not able to solve like Ruby’s Smoke.
I was raised in Ireland so the British sayings are very familiar to me but I can’t figure out the connection between the story and the title - is there one and I am missing it? But no matter, this was totally enjoyable and I feel written by a master. I so love a mystery that brings atmosphere, likable characters and then to get to the end not knowing or guessing wrong who the culprit is! When a character wants a cup of tea and then so do I you got me! I recommend to any cozy mystery fan!

This historical mystery series is very well-written with engaging characters. This book has a complex plot full of twists and turns I didn't see coming. I definitely recommend reading Ruby's Smoke!

British Mystery
Not my cup of tea. These supposed students went to one lecture. The rest of the time they were trying to solve crimes or out socializing.
