American actress and activist, Jocelyn Cole-Lawrenson, is returning from a film festival in Europe. Regular appearances on TV chat shows, in the USA, have burnished her reputation for holding nothing back. She is also to be seen on picket lines, and protest marches, for causes that she believes in. One is objecting to the trade in historic artefacts from the Middle East; a trade made more lucrative following, in her opinion, the misguided adventures of her country in the region. Her activities have also brought Joss, as she is popularly known, to the attention of the authorities in Britain. They have agreed to help their American counterparts in their actions against traffickers. Scott Borland is assigned to the case. He meets Joss on the flight to New York. He is to attend an auction, where intelligence has discovered that a choice collection of items will be sold, and that a primary suspect in the trade will be in attendance. Scott served in the British Army during the Iraq War and invasion of the country. The suspect and an accomplice are known to him. His interest in Joss becomes complicated. She has been seen in photographs of protests where one of the traders in artefacts is known to have been present. What does she know about the trades? Can she be of help in Scott’s quest for justice? Can she keep from being attracted to Scott, and the turmoil that will undoubtedly bring?
