Cassandra, My Chattel, My Love

Rate this book
Cassandra, My Chattel, My Love is an historical romance between two lovers, Clayton Sutherland and Cassandra MacKay, set in England in the early 1700s. Cassandra’s father, who is addicted to gambling, wages a very costly bet in a card game of Brag (Poker) and loses. To settle his gambling debts, he signs over his mansion, its contents, and his daughter to the noble Lord Clayton. Cassandra attributes his heinous act to the influence of alcohol and his need to win at cards. The initial meeting between Lord Sutherland and Cassandra as he arrives at the MacKay estate to claim all that he has won is quite explosive. Later Clayton is forced to send Cassandra to France and provide for her. She becomes enchanted with a handsome French libertine named Nicolas, but Clayton still loves her. This creates an explosive situation.
