Presents practical, effective strategies for landing management positions, providing tips on drafting broadcast letters and resumes, gaining control during job interviews, and using a new job as a springboard for an even better one
This book got me my first jobs in marketing research. It lays out a rather tough program of self examination and tallying of talents and then offers a sharp focused approach on the difficult art of searching for a job. Excellent! I believe it is aging well, in that the principles underlying the approach are still valuable today, although the technology has changed considerably.
First published in 1965, Carl Boll’s groundbreaking research (Harvard Business School) draws on 25 years of experience in assisting men (vernacular of the times) put together resumes, send out letters and interviews for executive jobs. Insightful and and ahead of its time, Boll’s approach relies on taking charge of interviews (as the interviewee), never sending your resume out by mail (it was the only means back then), and ensuring your resume specifically spoke to performance.
