About the author

Prolific author of animals stories for younger children, in particular dog and cat stories. As well as a Puppy Tales and Kitten Tales series she has written the Pony Tales series of pony books.

There is some speculation that the author does not actually exist but is a psuedonym for another author or authors. One author mentioned as writing under the name of Jenny Dale is Liss Norton, who incidentally is also said to be one of the ghostwriters for the Lucy Daniels Animal Ark series.

I have a bookshelf here on Goodreads that I called "otherwordly." This is for all fiction that hasn't a snowball's chance of ever coming true in the immediate future. I placed this book here because the friendship is between a Syrian (or golden) hamster and a guinea pig.

As someone who has been owned by both hamsters and guinea pigs and watched them interact I can guarantee that this book is a fantasy of the wildest kind. Hamsters are bullies and terrorize the poor guinea pigs. They just have not only a failure to communicate but a failure to even want to be on the same hemisphere as each other.



Other than that, it's a cute, lively story about a family with a hamster moving next door to a family with a guinea pig. The illustrations are very much like the ones in the Olga da Polga series. As the old saying goes, "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story."

This is a cute story! It is very different because it is about a guinea pig and hamster. Most books are about dogs and cats. That is why I enjoyed it so much!
