This book is a short historical account of the Knights of St. John (aka the Knights of Malta or Knights Hospitaller), with about as much information included as a standard encyclopedia entry. In addition, it includes a short word of encouragement from the author to live with courage as the knights did. This expanded edition includes a chapter on how the author personally became a knight in the order (OSJ Ecumenical, a Florida-based fringe group of the order not recognized by the five members of the Alliance of the Orders of Saint John of Jerusalem).
Overall, it was a quick read, a nice little introduction to the historical topic and the modern Florida-based group of which the author is a part.
I found this small booklet to be dotted with profound sound bites of truths of history that I had never quite captured or totally missed in my studies. Never before having learned of the Knights of St. John with their vision of living by the highest standards of chivalry, honor and Christian virtues, I was glad to learn the Order continues today. I was astonished at how through the years the Knights always found a way to survive and maintain an ability to stay unified and focused on what they considered to be the real enemy
