A gripping and enjoyable read

Jack Laidlaw is a hero in the best thriller tradition, not afraid to get stuck in when the going gets tough, but grounded with a great set of ethical, family, social and business values and a strong sense of place. Immediately likeable, he enjoys sounding off while watching footie and enjoying a beer with his mates but equally has a sensitivity and emotional intelligence not always found in his counterparts. Like all the characters in this great read of a novel, he is well delineated and highly credible with thorough characterisation. The novel carefully presents the ingredients, intersplices them with some subtle but hot chillies, lets them simmer for a while, then suddenly boils over. I can’t wait to see what Jack does next.

I like finding new authors, and I'm pleased I found this one. With crime and thrillers the believability of the central character is a big thing for me, and Jack Laidlaw is completely credible. I was drawn into the story very swiftly as well, and I didn't want it to end. I hope the author is writing something else - sign me up for a copy!

This is a very good thriller. Good suspense and the story grips you from the beginning. There were parts where it seemed a bit ott, and I also felt that for a banker or administrator for a bank, it felt a bit far fetched. Overall it’s a good thriller and it will probably leave you wanting more.

So many unexpected turns to this read...just the distraction I was hoping for when choosing this first time author. Intrigue abounds. Beautifully written with characters that jump off the page. I have already bought two copies to send for Christmas gifts!

I really enjoyed this. Topical and pacy, full of tension. I was drawn into Jack's story. Convincing characters and well-observed settings. An excellent, entertaining read.
