This book just hit the spot! At least once or twice a year I always seek out a book that will bring me back to Rome. This was a wonderful surprise little visit! A lot of times a book will just take place in Italy without really taking in the real culture, people, food, and feel of the city. But this book encompassed it. It was exactly what I was looking for!

It was short book..only 170 pages or so and told in very brief flashbacks as a mother told her daughter about her first love ~ It is a very light romance. It really is more about the places, the moments, and the build up of what the heck happened to this couple!?!?! I loved that each chapter that encompassed a date or a meet took place at a different place or restaurant around Rome and Italy. It had all the right food, wine and flair!!!! I hope the author has more little tidbits of Italy like this one!!

An insubstantial storyline which is only redeemed by the vivid descriptions of Rome and the Roman way of life.
The novel would have benefited from first person narration.
There were a number of irritating errors which included inter alia a reference to Euros being thrown in the Trevi Fountain in 1985 when in fact the Euro was launched in January 1999 and the incorrect designation of the Imperial Fora as the location of Julius Caesar’s assassination which took place in the Theatre of Pompey.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This story had wonderful descriptions of Rome. I felt like I could see it. I liked the narrator. The story was interesting. It was really easy to follow the timeline.

I picked up this book solely for the title and the cover. The cover is beautiful and I have a huge place in my heart for Rome, Italy so I was instantly drawn to this novel.

The story jumps from present day Tamara, sitting down to dinner with her adult daughter Julie and retelling the tale of her first love, a man named Giorgio she met in Rome, Italy and past Tamara, as her memories come to life in flashbacks of good food, conversation and falling in love with Giorgio the architect as they explore Rome hand in hand off and on for years.

Having been to Rome myself, D.P Rosano brings the Eternal City to life with his descriptions of the sights, the smells, the customs, the people. I was revisiting places I have been and experiencing places I haven’t.

Admittedly this book took a bit longer to read because I was googling places I wasn’t familiar with and researching the history of these landmarks. Also having taken some Italian courses ages ago, I spent some time refamiliarizing myself with some of the language as it came up in the book.

The story between Tamara and Giorgio wasn’t overly detailed but still flowed nicely. It wasn’t a whirlwind romance but it was sweet that they could pick up right where they left off every six months when Tamara was able to return to Rome.

When they finally decided to commit to each other I was slightly annoyed. They literally knew nothing of each other and that proved to be a problem when a twist comes out and Giorgio fails to show up for one of their meetings.

The reason he doesn’t show up ends up being kind of out there and hard to believe. It appears this is the style of the author, to throw some political/ mysterious element into his plots based on his life experiences. To me the lack of detail surrounding the twist makes it less exciting and more confusing and random.

The current day Tamara and her daughter was nicely written but it was kind of odd to me that Tamara would go and tell this elaborate story of romance and love that had nothing to do with her now deceased husband or the child they had together, Julie, especially as the story ends without a resolution.

I loved the glimpses and tour of Rome, the language and the food. The writing was great but the story lacked detail. I also didn’t love the “twist”.

Have you ever thought you would sit down and tell your child about a past love? Tamara finds it awkward at first when she tells Julie about Giorgio, a man she met in Rome before her daughter was even born. To Rome, With Love is a sweet love story told by a mother to her daughter. D.P. Rosano adds bits of the Italian lifestyle and history to give this romance substance as these two lovers travel Rome. But even true love has many avenues that couples can’t predict.

If you are the crying type, beware. I loved reading what Giorgio and Tamara went through though they loved each other deeply. D.P. Rosano will take you to another world as you read To Rome, With Love. The different culture adds a mystique to the novel. The author has mastered the art of connecting the characters to the reader emotionally.

This sweet story has everything. A bit of nostalgia with the way the story is set up. Romance, travel, and adventure are also not hard to come by in this one. There are plenty of love stories out there, but the ones that take place in far away places give an added touch of romance, which the author captures beautifully.

The characters, Tamara and Julie, are easy to fall in love with. It can easily have you reflecting on personal stories and no doubt some of us out here can relate to those cheeky stories we hear from our parents growing up. I would certainly recommend this book for anyone looking for something a little different.

Good story

I have to admit I was drawn in by the idea of Rome having been and loved the colour and vibrancy of the city. The cover called me to the book however, whilst a good story, this lacked colour and lustre and the warmth I was expecting especially from the characters and I found it hard to keep reading. In saying this, it is a good story and others might disagree strongly with my thoughts.

The story can be a little slow going at times, but persevere. You may think you know how it will end, but you don't. Did not see that ending coming.

A confession from mother to daughter. A lost love, a rediscovery and a great twist. The author used two points of view, which separated current and past. An easy, quick read.
