Gerald Kane made Miss Emma Rutherford an offer unthinkable to refuse. The handsome lord had both title and wealth to support his suit, plus Emma's father's emphatic approval. He had even given Emma the fabulous Kane diamonds to seal their troth.
How then could Emma let Lord Kane's affair with the most stunning beauty in London interfere with her engagement? How could she listen to the seductive suggestions of Lord Kane's archrival, the irresistible if infamous Lord Avenley? And how could she possibly hold out for the one thing that Lord Kane neglected to pledge?

This is a fast paced story . There was a lot happening around the H/h but their love story was a little bit underdeveloped through that . Still ... I enjoyed it enough for 4 stars .
Historical romance with a heavy dose of intrigue and drama. The female main character is a lovely young lady, all that is correct and proper. Honestly she’s a little boring but she’s doing her best as the men around her keep making decisions for her without paying much attention to her. I wish the author had written more from the male main character’s perspective since the lady sees him through rather forgiving eyes of a woman in love. The male main character has a bit of a past and some enemies trying to destroy his new relationship. He gives the lady a token to indicate his commitment but his loyalty keeps coming into question. The plot twists a few times before the whole thing gets sorted out by the bravery of a secondary character. There’s a happy ending. Violence. No sex. Mild language.
This frustrating book tried my patience, so much so that I barely finished it. No warmth, no real depth, and the central characters were unutterably boring. Cardinal sin of a Regency romance!
The most interesting characters were the lady's maid and the wayward, if amiable, brother.
That said, the description of everybody's clothes was grand.
