This is a classic book on the subject of the Holy Spirit. Sweeney gives a brief Theology of the Spirit culminating in a discussion of how the Spirit works today in the world and the lives of Christians. Sweeney holds the old view that has become less and less popular that the Spirit indwells and operates on the individual in a mediatory manner, through the word of God as His instrument. Sweeney offers many classic arguments in defense of this positions, but he includes a few statements and verses I had not heard or thought of elsewhere. There are a few places where his defense seems to force an awkward interpretation of a select passage or two, but this speaks more to his misinterpretation of a singular passage as opposed to the faultiness of his position in general. I think this is a pretty good work and worthy of reading on the part of anyone studying this subject.
