THE END OF OUR WORLD IS THE BEGINNING OF THEIRS… Rachel Collins has followed every rule in captivity to ensure her survival. Do your job. Do as you are told. Do not question them . Earth belongs to them . You belong to them . The last two years, she’s lived in a controlled society for humans who surrendered to the aliens that colonized Earth. Despite their human-like features and promises of a future utopia, their strict authority has her desperate to break free. When her father escapes to a rebel group rumored to be building an army outside the walls, she plans to join them. As humans from the camp begin to go missing, it becomes clear that time is running out and this may be the only chance she has to leave. I can’t say enough good things about this story. I haven’t read a ya sci-fi since my hunger games days but what a fun and wild ride this was. The writing was fantastically executed. The characters felt believable and relatable. There were even moments that had me sitting at the edge of my seat. I truly don’t know how this doesn’t have more reviews

I purchased this book at a local book festival in Ohio. I really wanted to like this book but I had a really hard time getting into it. The author was lovely, the first chapter read like a dream. After that, I found myself not connecting with the main character and not truly believing her to be a character that you felt would be the start of a revolution. I found the pacing of the book to sometimes too quick and at other times to slow. Also I felt confused and irritated that the main character who just escaped the compound to all of a sudden within a week want to return to where she just escaped and overturn the whole system when the rebels have been out there for so long working on their own plans just did it make sense to me. For me a 3 star is an average rating and I found it okay. I think the author has lots of potential and there were strong moments. I never DNF a book but if I do continue to the second book it will be on an E-reader.

❤️🛸Very nice YA discovery!

EMIGRE aliens had invaded Earth.

There were many theories as to why they came.

Rachel found herself penned in with the other survivors.

Today she was 18 and she had to escape...

I was immediately completely immersed in a YA science fiction plot that was quite exciting to read, with lots of action and various and varied feelings.

I personally loved the characters, especially Rachel.

I can't wait to read more!!

Bravo to the author.
I highly recommend.

I wanted to be able to give this book a high review, I really did. And it did have a lot of things going for it! The stakes were fairly high, the characters were reasonably likeable, and there were strong female characters. Good stuff!

The reason I couldn't give this book a higher rating is because, quite frankly, there were a lot of mistakes in this book. A LOT. I could tell it was written by a beginner. On a larger-scale view, the plot didn't really move toward a definitive point, and there was no real climax. Some of the characters were pretty non-unique - Alfie and Elliot were interchangeable; so were Rebecca and Brianna. Not a lot of round characters. They were all likeable enough, but rather flat. And we as readers didn't get to see enough of Rachel's family at the beginning, or experience them through flashbacks, to really care about getting them back. And there was a LOT of telling and not showing, especially in regards to emotions. We, as the readers, are probably smart enough to know these things without them being flat-out explained to us on the page. All stuff that probably could have been caught by an editor or a thorough beta reader.

On a more surface-level skim (grammar and stuff), nearly every line of dialogue was mis-punctuated or capitalized. Sometimes the prose hopped into past tense for a couple of pages. 'Alright' was used instead of 'all right.' A deaf boy who can understand when people talk to him. A thirteen year-old who acts like an eight year-old. Not stuff super important to the plot, but it stands out. And all stuff that could have been caught by a proofreader.

But please don't take this review that I didn't enjoy this book - I did like it, and I wouldn't have finished it if I didn't! Nolan's work has a lot of promise, and I'll probably get the second when it comes out!
