For the past fifteen years Francine Savard has explored the medium of painting, making it the very subject of her art. Her work is rich in references to the history of art and its writings, the studio, the painter's tools, and the act of painting and its meanings. Taking the form of variously shaped, monochromatic canvases, her works gather and intermingle, with a certain sense of poetry, formalist and conceptual approaches, art history, literature and geography, while offering a fresh interpretation of the vocabulary of painting. This first monograph containe two original essays. In English and French.
