My octogenarian friend and I spent a delightful Sunday afternoon reading aloud this humorous book from his personal library. As we laughed our way through the 1941 edition, we forgot the turmoil that kept us inside...and that was a fringe benefit. Readers who are familiar with road kill and country living will especially enjoy the author's down-to-earth poetry about such things as Pot Hole Possum, French Fried Frog Fritters, and Copperhead Sandwich Spread.

The original, entertaining poetry tells you how to cook that road kill in a way that makes one chuckle. Then the final section gives the reader "Real Old Time Favorites and Cooking Tips for Wild Game, Fish, Greasy Greens, and Soup" as native West Virginian cooks prepare it.

I love cookbooks and I try lots of new recipes, but I am going to pass by the ones in this book. The author knows how to make poetry and recipes using road kill, which doesn't tempt my palate. So...my opinion is this book is written to entertain the reader. But ifs he's drawn to such delicacies as Pole Greens or Nettle Soup, have a try at the recipe inside these pages.

Book is two thirds humorous poems and one third actual wild game cooking tips and recipes. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I loved reading these poems. Laughed till I cried. There is a volume 2 out there to look for....and I will!

This is a hilarious book to read. Written in prose, this book tells you all about how to cook roadkill, with creative illustrations as well. If you have a weak tummy this may not be the book for you, but if you like sick humor you will love this.
