Western Civilization is in decline. Its principles are being supplanted by progressivism. Yet it is poorly understood. Do you know how Western Civilization arose, why it's in decline, and what to do about it? Do you worry about your family's survival if times get harder? If so, this book is for you. Dr. Hays has had a leap of insight. The basis of Western Civilization is to be found in "The Gap"--a poorly known 5 million-year period. During the entire Gap humans lived in small, family-centered, nomadic, and subsistence bands. The Gap started when our ancestors' line split from that of chimpanzees. It lasted unitl the beginning of civilization (only 10 thousand years ago). During The Gap, the distinctive aspects of human nature evolved—primarily the initially blank programmable mind. This mind replaced instincts. During our long childhood, we load our minds with information by prodigious learning. The foundation of Western Civilization lay in natural law and the Christian religion. As Christianity weakened, so did that foundation. Natural law is a consequence of human nature and our principle-organized reality. Western Civilization rose simply because it worked! Dr. Hays describes life at the start and end of The Gap, sketches how civilization developed, and how Western Civilization arose and began to decline. He identifies the key values of human society, and where they are being supplanted by progressivism. Progressivism is also part of human nature, but applies to only one part of life. He identifies human weaknesses that led Western countries astray, and how to compensate for them. His most radical suggestion is to restore the importance of the small, independent socio-economic unit. He finishes with a chapter on how you, the reader, can increase the chances your line will survive the coming radical changes.
