Beyond the Book…
Fundamentals of Real Estate Appraisal 11th Edition
by Williams L. Ventolo, Jr. & Martha R. William, JD
Nonfiction- Textbook
4.5 ★★★★☆
While textbooks are generally not on the top of my to read list, I do find them particularly interesting. With a respectable pace and reasonable comprehension, you are able to learn a whole subject in a matter of a weeks’ time. That is exactly how I learned the fundamentals of real estate appraisals.
Throughout this textbook, as with any textbook, you learn industry terms and basic principles of the subject. Having a solid foundation of the real estate industry prior to this book only enhanced my understanding and knowledge of how appraisals are executed. You will learn the appraisal process from start to finish and gain a solid understanding of the three appraisal methods, the sales comparison approach, the cost approach and the income approach. There are plenty of examples and quizzes to test your understanding as you read through the chapters.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a career as an appraiser. I would also recommend this book to real estate agents/brokers, builders, developers, and real estate investors, including wholesalers, flippers, buy and holds, spec builds, etc. The appraisal process is a key aspect in any property sale or purchase. Having a vast knowledge of a property’s value can save you a lot of time, money and headaches. Not to mention the added worth to your own value proposition and skill sets.
