So, it turns out that reading a 2009 book on SEO in 2017 is a terrible idea. Only the very basics are still valid and, in particular, the available toolkit has moved on massively in eight years. No-one would want to use the author's rather clunky Perl programs.
This seo book is not something that you cannot find online. Maybe it is good for a starter but not so much interesting for someone that has a little experience in SEO. I like to read books about my profession to have organised, what I read in several blogs and forums. Sadly this book is not what I expected. I really didn't learnt anything. Also because I am reading all books from page 1 to the last one, I got tired to analyse subjects that could be not in this book (social media, adwords, analytics). It didn't mention them from SEO point of view but as informative chapters. This was so much annoying. I gave 3 stars only because I think it could be good enough for someone new in online marketing.
This was one of the first books that I read on SEO. It was extremely easy to understand and follow. It also lead to my career in marketing. It is an extremely important book for anyone starting out in SEO and I wouldn't suggest building a solid foundation without it. There are some really good tidbits of SEO knowledge in here, that may seem obvious, but when your mind is taken up by the day-to-day web dev grind, it is a great tome to have for backup when your mind is fried and you need to find ways to improve your site's SER
A good book on SEO that delivers all that it promised to. The low reviews are not to be trusted. Why give a bad rating to a book from 2009 for being outdated when you are reading it in 2017? Why complain it was basic when that's how it presents itself?
