From Here to Argentina: A Tango Love Story

“Tango is a dance of passion, but not that kind of passion, or, at least not on the dance floor” Esteban’s tango students––exquisite Rosalie, flamboyant Juniper, arrogant Mikhail, and deceptively mild-mannered Dan––all carry heavy baggage, secrets from their pasts, when they meet in Absolute Beginners class. Everyone’s in search of happy endings, but one person’s dream is another’s catastrophe. They can’t all come true. Can Esteban (well, Jason, actually) persuade the whole class to sign on for his tango tour to Buenos Aires, where he’s sure his online love for tango maestra Aurelia will bloom face-to-face? Until they do, he’s broke, stuck sleeping in his car, and he can’t guess what his students are up to outside class.

Who knew that the world of social dance could bring out such intrigues and complications? These characters pair up and re-pair, coordinate their moves and keep the beat, some moving backwards and on stilettoes. Romance is the songtrack. A luscious book, even for those of us who don't venture onto the dancefloor.

A story that strikes deep into the heart of human loss and longing. Brilliant writing and story structure.Varied and complex modern characters who meet in tango class in a northwest mountain town. Thoughtful and delightfully fun. And the beat goes on . . .

It was so fun to read this. Will there be a sequel, I wonder?

The writing is good, the characters are unlikeable. The only good people in the story get ripped off at the end, a very unsatisfactory read.
