Janie Peters is plain. Men don't notice her. Her prospects for finding a husband - at least a good one - are slim. She's young enough that possibly she'd be accepted as a mail order bride if she's willing to move.
Answering forty year old Sheriff Jim Bryson's ad seemed like a long shot, but she decided to do it. The worse thing that could happen would be that she just never got a response. She was surprised and eager when she heard from him. After several letters, that she kept and cherished, he invited her to Mill Creek, Nebraska to be his bride. She was certain her dreams had come true.
She had no idea that the man didn't actually want a young mail order bride. He couldn't even get her name right. She'd come this far, so she pulled out all her patience and perseverance and decided to do what she could to win his heart. She was young enough to be fearless in her pursuit. What she didn't expect was a sinister plot brewing in the town. Eventually, she'd get caught up in it while still pining after the man she'd come to love.
Would the sheriff see the truth? Would he be willing to help her even though those close to him believed he should turn his back on her?
I was interested in a quick read prior to Christmas - and I was able to finish Annie Boone's "Mismatched" in one day :D
The hero came across as overly harsh at the beginning of the novel and the first few pages were a bit confusing with regards to conversations and characters, but following the first chapter, this story made for an enjoyable read.
The plot twist was completely shocking and unexpected. Must admit, I did not see that one coming.
This book was the first novel I read by Annie Boone - however, it will not be my last :D
When older sheriff has to move from his comfortable boarding house owner he’s told to get married. I found I didn’t really like this book it had great bones of the story, but not blended well together. I think this story could’ve been done a lot better.
"Easy" reading novella with a simple yet engaging plot. A retiring boarding house owner wants to find Sheriff Jim a wife. He just tries to shake it off.... until she informs him that his bride-to-be is arriving on the train. Can he learn to love being mismatched?
