This book was excellent, and I would recommend it for anyone who has recently lost a job. It was both encouraging and challenging anc presented seeing it as a positive opportunity to be had. Practical help that helped me preparing for an important interview tremendously.

I started reading this to see if I thought it might be helpful to someone who had recently lost a job unexpectedly.

It does look like it would be helpful initially to help normalize the experience, validate the associated feelings, and start thinking about a path forward.

I think the book and the system it lays out would be extremely useful in a situation where support is available through counselors or other people/colleagues who also lost their jobs. I think it would be much less helpful to those who are dealing with this situation mostly on their own and do not have or aren’t comfortable asking for a lot of support in working through the Deems JobGetting System.

I barely skimmed the information after chapter 6, but it looks like useful information and tips on interviewing and then negotiating offers when you get them. The information on finding jobs looks outdated though. There is some potentially inspirational anecdotes in the epilogue (I suggest reading them earlier). An appendix on self-employment provides a brief starting point for those who may wish to consider that option.

Well, it was a good book suggested by a career coach but I will say that it is unfortunately out of date. Sure, let go of the job loss as it was in the past but job applications today are not totally the same as they were back in 2009.

I read this a few days after being laid off from a job I loved. It was very helpful in addressing my emotions at the time. I found the personal stories to be inspiring, and it was extremely helpful to know that I wasn't alone in what I was experiencing. I hope no one needs this book, but I do recommend it as a first step in dealing with the "what now?" that following job loss.

Helped me mucho. Practical aspects (how to write a cover letter, etc) but also helped with the low self esteem issues wrought from being fired. Highly recommend.
