It’s time for Jack Prentice to be Getting-on, as Stigwell moves to shake up Standish Holdings Plc., his centuries old Victorian Trader. Impressed by the way Prentice dealt with the man who murdered his daughter, he ropes him in as a hatchet man. He’s checking him out, but it’s not Plain Sailin’ as Prentice takes up the challenge.
Stigwell’s out to turn Standish into a 21st century Powerhouse. But events turn against them as the country slides into recession and Kuwait is invaded. A vicious war internecine war breaks out in the new divisions of Standish, as Prentice merges Standish with Caspar Worldwide and Tartan Industries in a bid to drag the ailing Standish, into the new millennium.
Disaffected Merchant Banker Simon Horburg stirs things up, as Clikker and Capstick, two West End wideboys come into play. Clikker’s in his capacity as Investment Manager uses the new Provident Court Trust Fund they’ve set up, to bankroll his Golden Eldorado Shopping complex on a Spaghetti Junction Greenfield site he’s bought through a bent estate agent in Brum.
But the project stalls as its revealed there’s a former council landfill rubbish tip underlying the site and its leaching methane gas. Clikker runs out of time and cash, as Horburg turns the screws. Prentice meanwhile has been caught on the hop by a late night visit to his office, as shady gumshoe Smelly-Suit Harris moves in on Horburg’s behalf, to grab inside information he needs to second guess Prentice who’s proving to be his Nemesis.
Clikker fortuitously comes across some of these papers, stolen from Prentice’s car and returns then to him, to plead his case for a helping hand. While Sir Edwin Sells is seeking retribution for the way he was treated in his days as an Investment Advisor to Simon Horburg, when tried to rein in his former boss and was fired.
Sir Edwin is out to use his new position, to close down the Horburg Bank and discredit his former boss, who he suspects of Insider Trading. He’s called in to Horburg’s Office to lay it on the line for him in his new position as Chairman of the Regulatory Arm of Financial Services UK. But it all turns sour, as Horburg flips to bump him off, together with the Aussie Lager Baron, Neil Caesar who has stopped by in a bid to sell up his UK operation to Horburg and scarper back to Sydney in disarray, as his past catches up with him.
Having dealt with Sir Edwin Sells and Neil Caesar, Horburg goes after Prentice in a bid wipe out his enemies in a shoot out at Spaghetti Junction before meeting with the final countdown, as colleagues of the police patrol men he dealt with on his way up the M1 Motorway to Spaghetti Junction close-in, to deliver his come-uppance.
