I WISH YOU ENOUGH…

Do you have enough? Sometimes, having too much is worse than having too little. So, in I WISH YOU ENOUGH, Bob Perks introduces us to a father saying a last goodbye to his daughter. He’s dying, and is realistic enough to know that her next flight home will be for his funeral. The author talks to them and asked about their farewell phase—I wish you enough.

The book starts out with a poem

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough “hellos” to get through the final “good-bye.”

This book is beautiful. Literally and figuratively. Not only does it have a lovely cover, but it also includes the above poem, divided up in sections, with short stories illustrating each one. Some of the stories are sweet, encouraging. Some of them are tear-jerkers. And some make you think. A quote and a Bible verse are also included in each section.

If you are looking for a perfect gift to give somebody, then I WISH YOU ENOUGH is exactly what you are looking for. Pick up your copy today. $12.99 hardcover. 128 pages.

I have been reading Bob Perks writings for MANY years -- I even get his emails. His messages are powerful and make one THINK.

Sadly this book is now out of print - the publisher has chosen NOT to print another edition of the book. So, if anyone is interested in it, and wants a copy, one will have to contact Bob personally. He has an online website.

Best Wishes to you Bob. This book is like you -- AWESOME!!!

I just finished reading the book I Wish You Enough: Embracing Life's Most Valuable Moments One Wish at a Time by Bob Perks. This is a small gift book containing several anecdotes that are meant to inspire us to make the most of life's precious moments.

The book begins by Perks describing an encounter he had at an airport with a gentleman who is saying good-bye to his daughter. The author overheard him say to her "I wish you enough" as they were parting ways, and this stirred his curiosity. He was touched when after asking what the words meant, the man gave Perks the wishes that had been handed down his family from generation to generation:

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye."

From that jump-off point, Perks proceeds to relate several anecdotes around each individual line of wishing. Each section of inspirational stories begins with the wish set against the backdrop of a beautiful photograph with the prose printed against a background that ties in with the graphic theme set for the wish. As far as the stories themselves go, each story is touching and inspirational in its own way - several of them even caused me to tear up a bit! There are several reminders of how God loves us and uses His people to do His work and spread His love, as well as several nuggets of wisdom to take to heart and remember as we go about our days. My favorite of these nuggets was "God feeds the smallest bird, but He doesn't throw the food into the nest. That is why He gave them wings."

The book was wonderful and I enjoyed taking in each one of the inspirational anecdotes that Perks relates. This would be a fabulous gift for that friend who is down on life and needs a lift or reminder about how God is working to make the world around us wonderful, or maybe to someone who just needs an ounce of hope.

Posted 01/27/10: I have many wishes for my College Girl. And I have often thought what would I wish for her the most? That is a hard one. What do you wish for your loved ones? I Wish her: Discernment, which she has quite well. Thus she can be polite yet state her view in most situations. CG also is very good at deciding who and when to share her life with. Love, to fill her life with. True deep never ending love. She has not found it yet, but she is patient and willing to wait for the right one. Joy, in her choices, in her encounters, in life. It comes down to the fact I wish her enough. Bob Perks wrote a gift book named "I Wish You Enough". It helps us focus on how we can embrace those moments in our lives. I love the attitude this book brings. Each small chapter starts with a wish that composes part of a poem. My favorite is "I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright." That alone can brighten my day. So instead of wondering what I wish for my College Girl, I have decided to sit and share this book with her. I do want to say thanks to Thomas Nelson publishing for sharing this book with me. And let me end with another line in the book "I Wish You Enough." "I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.

This book was so uplifting and inspirational! In a world where too much never seems to be enough, Bob Perks brings the focus back to basics - where you may not have everything you want, but that you should be grateful to have what you need. Makes a perfect gift for someone in your life who needs a little perspective.
