Though they haven’t seen each other for fifteen years, Duncan Yves has never forgotten Hilda Bennet, or the feelings of love and protection she engendered in him when they were kids. So when she becomes the target of a madman who kills with fire and calls his deadly work Art, it seems perfectly natural for Duncan to try to protect her. Unfortunately, he soon learns that protecting Hilda just might bring the past crashing back down on both of them. Hilda was just a girl when she last saw Duncan, and her childish dreams of living with him behind a picket fence were squashed when he went away. But when they finally find each other again, the past that separated them all those years earlier still seems determined to keep them apart. Can they nurture the embers of a love that was forged in childhood into the full-fledged inferno it seems destined to be? Or will the destruction of yesterday’s fire finally smother that blossoming flame, and leave their love in ashes?

I loved this book. It's much more that just a romance novel. It's full of surprises and mystery! Duncan Yves has never forgotten his childhood friend and first girlfriend Hilda Bennet. When a Fire and the surrounding circumstances forced their families to move apart the kids lost touch. Duncan goes on to be come an arsonist inspector due to past influences. 15 years later, due to another fire, Duncan and Hilda meet again. Sparks fly as neither has forgotten their childhood feelings for one another. Duncan determines the recent fire was no accident and senses Hilda is in real danger. To protect her he must put his feelings aside. But can he? Will she let him get away a 2nd time in order to protect herself?

AWESOME BOOK! It kept this reader glued to the pages! 2 thumbs up for another great Sam Cheever story - One I truly hope becomes a series.

"I smell smoke." just one of the firefighter euphemisms used and so cleverly as well! Hilda and Duncan have history together, but so does the arsonist trying to frame Hilda. Lots of twists and turns. Just when you think you know who the mystery arsonist is, a twist happens. Keep reading for the whole story, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy! I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
