Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it certainly hasn’t harmed Romeo. Romeo is a special dog, with lots of big ideas. When he comes upon a problem with packing for his camping trip, Romeo references a trusty book of transportation inventions and tries his hardest to work out a way to get his luggage to budge. Romeo shows many admirable qualities throughout this story-he is hard working, determined, uses books and knowledge to problem solve, and when things don’t go as planned he makes the best of his situation and looks on the bright side! My 2.5 year old enjoyed this book quite a bit. I was a little surprised because it’s somewhat word heavy and more suited for the 4-8 age range. There are some fantastic vocabulary building words, along with chances to discuss engineering and transportation methods. I think this book deserves a read, and a place on many book shelves.

This children’s book details Romeo’s many attempts to lug his too-heavy suitcase so he can go camping! The cute whiskered pup comes up with some awesome-sounding ideas, but sadly, they don’t quite go as he expects. Our kids laughed as we read each page, giving Romeo suggestions and commenting on his zany ideas. This was the second Romeo book we’ve read. There are a lot more words in this book, which we liked! Romeo’s tenacity and eventual solution show the kids to think hard, do your research, and keep trying!

#partner Thanks @kidlitexchange for a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own. Romeo is trying to go on vacation, but just can’t get his suitcase to budge. After several failures, he decided to turn his trip into a stay-cation, teaching us that we can turn negative situations into positives. I loved the vintage texture and colors of the book. The end pages let the reader know there is more to the series. The character is accessible, funny, and imperfect.
