In today's environment, skin is under constant pressure. Air in offices and buildings, for instance, is often excessively dry and overheated, and contemporary cleaning solutions and soaps are excessively harsh. This leads to conditions ranging from persistent acne to eczema and psoriasis and can include dry, rough, or scaly skin; unexplained morning sneezing and a runny nose; persistent acne; limp, lifeless, stringy, or greasy hair; dark rings around the eyes; recurrent tinea; or disturbed sleep. Practical and helpful, this extensive guide explains the causes of these modern skin problems, and provides simple, safe, non-invasive, and inexpensive solutions.
It wasn't particularly entertaining read, therefore only 4 stars, but it was definitely eye-opening, and will help me save some money, which I would otherwise spend thoughtlessly on expensive skin-care products. I think the book is aimed mostly at the people who haven't yet questioned the common "truths" of skin-care and are not much into the topic of natural beauty and stuff like that. The author is a doctor, and if I were a skin-care products' manufacturer, I would not like this book to become popular. But I am not, so I appreciate his honest advice and point of view. Basically, the guy states that we don't really need to buy all the products we buy to have healthy and good looking skin, and although I might not follow his advise on every topic, it already changed my perspective. Probably it is not the best read on the topic, but come on! it is short, explains basic things we need to know and gives some contraintuitive advises you probably haven't considered, so you might give it a try.
Will update the rating once I have tried the recommendations. I like that the book is straight forward and based on science rather than marketing. Definitely went against some of my preconceived notions about skin health.
