finally finished! this book presents ming dynasty history in such a humorous and engaging way. it's really really rare to find a history book that isn't boring at all but i actually found myself looking forward to reading this every day, like it's genuinely enjoyable. the writing stirs up emotions in you that no other history book ive read has
however it's also serious when it needs to be and doesn't treat grave topics lightly. the author gets a LOT of information across. i have really gained so much knowledge from reading this. it may not be the most detailed or even the most historically accurate, but its storytelling and descriptions and the way this history is told is just soo exceptional. i don't know much about this period in history so it's great for ordinary readers to get an overview of what really happened during the ming dynasty
there are 9 books in this series so i guess it's time to start the second !!
thoughts b4 read
i hope the history nerd in me will like this a lot.
i read this for the first time in about 4th grade and thought it was extremely boring. but i also didn't understand 90% of what it was saying, so there's that.
so excited to read a 9 book nonfiction historical saga on the ming dynasty, which will either be the death of me or will revive me. idk which yet
i hope can finish by the end of 2026 LMAO, but we'll see
i do love this writing style though
