Adam, le narrateur, voyage de l'Amérique du Nord à la Turquie, passant par la Grèce ou encore par une petite île "située à environ soixante-dix milles marins au large du Sahara". Mais il chemine aussi à travers les mots, miroirs dans ce livre de la mémoire et de la perte. Se détache de tous ces parcours la figure d'Aerea (ou Artemis, "petite soeur de Minerve"), fermée à l'amour, qui disparaît au début du livre, conduisant Adam à l'errance, qui ne le délivrera pas de sa solitude. Si Adam ne cesse d'oublier Aerea, il ne cesse aussi de la retrouver au long de son parcours aux prises au filet de la mémoire : "La mémoire n'est peut-être pas autre chose qu'une petite surface qui s'obscurcit : on sait encore ce qu'on ne verra plus."

Emmanuel Hocquard (born in 1940 in Cannes) was a French poet who grew up in Tangier, Morocco. He served as the editor of the small press Orange Export Ltd., and, with Claude Royet-Journoud, edited two anthologies of new American poets, 21+1: Poètes américains ď aujourďhui (with a corresponding English volume, 21+1 American Poets Today) and 49+1. In 1989, Hocquard founded and directed "Un bureau sur l'Atlantique", an association fostering relations between French and American poets.

Besides poetry, he has written essays, a novel, and translated American and Portuguese poets including Charles Reznikoff, Michael Palmer, Paul Auster, Benjamin Hollander, Antonio Cisneros, and Fernando Pessoa. With the artist Alexandre Delay, he made a video film, Le Voyage à Reykjavik.

it's like an animated oil painting - the surreal tone and hypnotic prose make for an immersive reading experience
