Rather than having one story featured on the cover of this volume of Gladstone’s series, this volume features several, all dealing with a common theme: The Brittle Mastery of Donald Duck.
The formula for each tale is similar. Donald is presented as an absolute master of his chosen craft: rainmaking, haircuts, glass repair, building demolition, etc. He demonstrates his mastery on several clients, but eventually runs into trouble in spectacular fashion, either through a flaw in himself (jealousy, pride, etc.) or because of an outside antagonist (the crow in the moving story, or the gnat in the demolition tale). It's a loose enough formula to allow for endless variations, and Barks does some fine work on these stories. There are some lovely touches to them, like the running gag of people mangling the phrase, “master glass craftsman,” or the way the crane in the demolition story rears up on its treads before swinging the wrecking ball. This is quality work. Highly recommended!
