Ehvah Rowe’s life is in freefall. Her teen queen status is long forgotten, and with a childhood of tragic loss, no family save a diabolical aunt, and no career prospects, her L.A. celebrity world holds no future. It will take a murder, an escape to the Australian tropics, and the friendship of an Aussie bodyguard, for her to discover healing, faith, and a way forward. David Blake knows how to be a soldier. His army training equipped him to fight and protect. But when it comes to helping a fear-filled celebrity navigate the same post-traumatic stress symptoms he has suffered, David discovers the challenge in forsaking his own strength for God’s plan. Rose Dee weaves a story of mystery, drama and romance, in her trademark tropical North Queensland Australian style.
Rose, who holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree, was born in North Queensland, Australia. Her childhood experiences growing up in a small beach community would later provide inspiration for her first novel, Back to Resolution. Beyond Resolution and A New Resolution are the second and third books in the Resolution series.
Back to Resolution won the Bookseller’s Choice award at the 2012 CALEB Awards, while A New Resolution won the 2013 CALEB Prize for Fiction. She has also released The Greenfield Legacy, a collaborative novel, written in conjunction with three other outstanding Australian authors, and a standalone novel, Ehvah After.
Her novels are inspired by the love of her coastal home and desire to produce exciting and contemporary stories of faith for women. Rose resides in North Queensland, Australia.
Ehvah has followed in the footsteps of her musician parents, choosing music as a career. But at 22 she is no longer a teen star and has become disappointed with the world she inhabits and the Los Angeles party scene. When she witnesses the murder of James, her aunt’s husband, she fears for her life. She ends up fleeing to Australia where her aunt is making a movie. The death of James and the secret about the hidden money that it appears Ehvah knows although she doesn’t know where it is hidden, presents an interesting aspect to the story. Ehvah’s aunt Mara is a whiney and nasty piece of work, but she is the only family Ehvah has. Their relationship is rocky at best and with good reason. While in Australia Ehvah meets the enigmatic David, an ex-soldier who becomes her bodyguard. But can he keep her safe or will danger and trouble find her? The setting of Northern Queensland and some of its peculiar inhabitants is well described. Ehvah was a likable character though I think younger women will probably relate to her better than I did. However like Ehvah, I had my share of problems with Bernie the carpet snake, the huntsman spiders and leeches. David, has a strong faith which has been nurtured by those close to him as they helped him through his experiences of post-traumatic stress. It seems at first David and Ehvah have little in common. Or maybe there is more than they thought? This is an enjoyable read that kept my attention and I liked the strong faith displayed by David. There is a strong emphasis on God and His power to change lives. This adds a richer element to a story that is both a mystery and a romance. Thanks to the author who provided me with a free copy of this book as part of a blog tour for ACRBA (Australian Christian Reader s Blog Alliance).
Ehvah After is an unlikely romance between an American teen pop star who is past her use-by date and an Australian body guard. Ehvah and David meet in an idyllic location but under hazardous circumstances. Although from two completely different backgrounds, it turns out they have more in common than would be expected. It's a bumpy journey as Ehvah and David navigate their pasts, their ambitions and their differences to find common ground.
Rose Dee creates surprising but believable contexts for her characters and therefore the obstacles they confronted are all the more interesting. Some of the issues raised in this book are post-traumatic stress, early childhood losses, and the inadequacy of wealth to solve problems. These are common issues in modern society.
I enjoy Rose's books because they are realistic portrayals of ordinary flawed people who make mistakes and have to live with the consequences. Also there is always more than just a romance happening and this one also contains a good deal of mystery and drama. I like Rose's Australian settings and encounters with the wildlife which adds appeal to the story.
Ehvah After has more spiritual content than Rose's other books and this develops slowly through the book. This content explores the relevancy of faith to everyday life making it relatable and integral to the story.
Ehvah After is a good read – engaging and original.
With thanks to Rose for providing a free book for review.
A real page-turner. An easy, fluid read. I was hooked from the end of the first chapter when former teen queen Ehvah becomes a witness in the murder of her aunt's husband, James. She's seen a distinguishing tattoo which will help identify the killer. But does she tell the FBI? No. She becomes rattled by her aunt's insistence she keep her mouth shut.
Escaping to Australia where her aunt Mara is on location shooting a period drama, Ehvah retreats to an isolated beach house. And there she starts to fall heavily for live-in security guard, David Blake. A man suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a stint in a warzone.
Ehvah soon as to reassess the good-guy image she has of her uncle James: he's been involved in same seriously dodgy deals with Russian gangsters. And they're after her. So too it seems are mobsters related to her aunt's toyboy lover.
Because, somehow, somewhere, she holds the key to the location of the money James skimmed off the top of the accounts he was laundering.
Mystery, romance and drama are woven together with a light sprinkling of Christian thought.
Another gorgeous book by Rose Dee. Every time I read one of her books it speaks deeply to my heart. Ehvah Rowe has been in the spotlight all of her young life. With famous parents and her own celebrity status what more could she want? After witnessing the murder of a beloved friend Ehvah escapes the limelight. In the far north of Queensland Ehvah discovers a life far different from what she knew in America. In her relative seclusion Ehvah searches for her identity outside of her celebrity status and answers to the mystery she left behind. Deeper still Ehvah begins to encounter the one she can trust no matter what happens in life. It soon becomes apparent though that maybe she isn't as safe as she hoped. The monsters she thought she had escaped have followed her and want something that only she can give. Faith, mystery, romance and breathtaking scenery- Rose Dee delivers again in style.
Ehvah After by Rose Dee is a Christian Sweet Romance set in the United States and Australia. Evah Rowe, the child of musical duo killed in a plane crash when she was still a child has her own musical success fostered by her aunt. When Ehvah witnesses the murder of her aunt's partner, she is sent to stay with her aunt in Cairns for her protection from organised crime. She connects with the buff bodyguard, David Blake, but is not sure who she should trust while David is not sure what to make of his charge and is definitely not ready for romance after the break-up with his previous girlfriend broke his heart.
I loved the Aussie tropical setting and there was enough action and humour to keep me interested. The faith element added depth and the ending satisfying. A good read.
This really wasn't my kind of novel. The plot was too simple and the writing felt like it was aimed at a younger audience, even though the main character is 24.
I also don't really like the way the book handled 'love'. It felt like the book was saying that sexual desire for someone equals love. But it doesn't. That's lust. And I know there was a lot more in the book than just the two main characters making eyes at each other's... bodies... but it felt very shallow and physical to me.
Why I didn't finish this book: First off, the two main character's attraction was totally physical. To paraphrase another reviewer, 'that's lust, not love'. One example is "his chiseled body reminded her of a superhero", from Ehvah's POV. Second, David doesn't have any flaws... that I could find... His crooked tooth 'adds character', he has a 'muscular torso' - even his SNORING is attractive! Ehvah is supposed to be a rich superstar, why doesn't she go buy a life?? Ehavh herself says that she 'is obsessed with David, probably more than she should be'. Thirdly, Ehvah came across as someone much younger than 24, while David seemed much older than 28. I kept getting creeped out by the age gap, even though it's not as big as I kept thinking it was. Finally, Page 74, guys. This is where I stop. That is just totally creepy (she's literally fantasising about sleeping with him!?). So, of the 82 pages I read, this was the best quote, "So he's looking over at these chicks, stacks the bike, and is out cold", pg 56. And that's only because Boof was my favourite character.
Sexual Content Mentions of a skimpy outfit. A woman had an affair with a younger man, not detailed. A girl lives alone with her bodyguard, a guy. I find it hard to believe a security company would assign ONE male to a female client?? Multiple mentions of Ehvah 'desiring' David's sexy muscles. A couple awkward misunderstandings of Aussie slang. Ehvah says David is ripped.
Violence & Gore A character is shot in the head. Described as two "craters" with blood running down their forehead.
Profanity & Insults Sucks x1
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking Mentions of going clubbing, etc.
Frightening & Intense Scenes None that I read.
Spiritual Content I found the Christianity a bit heavy-handed and cliche. "We have to trust God even if we don't know what he's doing", all those kinds of correct answers, etc.
Ehvah After grabbed me from the first page and held on until the last. This book was wonderful - combining so many elements that capture a reader’s attention and holding it until the end. It had a great, understated spiritual element to the book that enhanced the story, didn’t distract or take away from the storyline but gave more meaning and a richer experience. I loved the adventure, the romance, the comedy and the mystery/suspense. I could really relate to Ehvah’s personality and I loved the bodyguard. He reminded me so much of my husband that it kept me turning the pages. I also loved her descriptions of Australia. I felt as though I was there experiencing the weather, the beautiful scenery, and even “Bernie.” That part especially made me laugh as I have a six-year-old who would love to play with one - and a friendly one at that.
Great book - highly recommend to all my friends and family. Can’t wait for Ms. Dee’s next book!
AMAZING! I cried, because the love that God has for us is so evident through out this story. Ehvah's journey to meet the King of all kings was simply beautiful and it made me examine some areas in my life that need healing. When a Christian Fiction story can entertain, edify and draw you to the Lord or draw you closer to Him then it goes beyond storytelling; it becomes ministry and that is powerful. Ehvah After is a parable from the heart of God placed into the heart of Rose Dee to be shared with the world. The message is God loves you, just trust and believe in Him even when bad things happen He will not leave you.
I started reading this story by Rose and could not put it down. Full of adventure! Ehvah is on a burn out from acting and singing. Her life doesn't have very much going for it. Party life has gotten old now what? Until there is a murder in her house. One tattoo of a snake on a guys neck is all she can remember. Her Aunt has her off to Australia for safety, or does Aunt Mara have something else up her sleeve? This story will keep you glued to it it is exciting. Romance is in the air also in this Australian paradise. I loved the characters. 5 star
I loved this book from beginning to end. Rose has done another fantastic job!!! I would recommend anyonr and everyone to read this. no matter what your age, you would enjoy this!!!
