This was such an informative read. My husband has had to endure several days of Russian facts being enthusiastically read to him. This doesn't cover modern Russia, but I was actually looking specifically for old Russian history. I liked the chapter breakdown and the overview instead of diving too deeply into each topic and losing my interest. I will say some of the chapters seem to jump around with dates and don't flow completely linear. That could have been polished a little. Overall, absolutely loved this and learned a lot. A pretty thick book, but extremely easy to read and follow.

Note: I actually picked this up trying to find some history of the Jews in Russia. This doesn't cover much of that, if you are looking for that information.

Apart from one petty issue I had with the information regarding 1997's Anastasia (the book calling it Disney when it was 20th Century Fox), this book is very informative but suffers from a lack of good organization.

The main chapter points are interrupted, sometimes distractingly, by information that could be shared later in the chapter instead of breaking up text. Still a good place to start with studying Russia I think. It should be noted though, that the book is from 2002 and does not cover up to the Russia of today.
