Felicity had struggled hard to prove herself worthy of the title Kith. She had learned everything her father had demanded of her, reading and writing, battle strategy, swordsmanship, archery, hunting, survival, how to lead men, etiquette, needlepoint, and flower arranging. He had demanded of her not only to be the perfect daughter, but the son he never had. She had thought she had done a good job, at least until the day Colonel Malcolm Dewhurst took over as the head of the Palace Guard and declared her a worthless swordsman who was more likely to hurt herself than anyone else. To make matters worse, her stepmother declared her utterly hopeless as a female. All this she had endured with a smile, but now here she was on the brink of her twentieth birthday facing her greatest failure ever.
The writing was good and easy to understand. The concept was also interesting. I just can't get over a 29 year old liking a 14 year old. There also wasn't any feminism themes like the title suggested. (I know this time period was like this, so maybe it was all done on purpose)?
I suggest reading: Cleopatra's Moon The Valiant Curses and Other Family Secrets Vampyre A Thousand Heartbearts Queen Among the Dead
8/10/24 I got to meet the author at my library, she was very sweet and kind. She even signed my book for me!
This book has a bit of adventure but is really a sweet romance about a young girl, who is also a Kith. Felicity's life has been mostly about doing what she is supposed to, except for one thing. She is unmarried.Readers follow along on a few dangerous adventures as Felicity sorts out her life and finally finds what she was looking for.
Sweet adventure typical of the author and then the sprinkle of romance in there makes the book a must read. A little shortage on the characters but everything else is on point.I recommend it for all ages.
