A young Irishwoman sets out for London to seek her fortune and has a series of remarkable adventures involving lords, rogues, gamblers, and a brilliant young canal builder, in this eighteenth-century tale
Certainly an original story. I enjoyed most of it, but could have done without all the scientific detail on canal locks. The author definitely knew about that. Maybe if this book were made into a movie, I would have understood and appreciated it more. (I almost never say that!)
