God s intent in giving us the Bible was not to present us with a scientific textbook. And yet, as this richly illustrated book demonstrates, the Bible is a source of scientific information that supports what we know about our world today. Biologist Ben Hobrink takes us on a journey, discovering a wealth of facts about nutrition, health, hygiene, agriculture and geology that can t be found in any other ancient text.
In this book, the young-earth fundamentalist Ben Hobrink repeatedly tries to resurrect several of the forty-one discredited claims for a young earth that the young-earth fundamentalist organizations, Creation Ministries International and Answers in Genesis, have listed as arguments that young-earth fundamentalists should not use to try to prove that the universe is only 6000 years old. CMI stated that “some arguments are definitely fallacious, while others are merely doubtful or unsubstantiated” (www.creation.com/arguments-we-think-c...). Yet, Hobrink still rehashes these embarrassing discredited young-earth claims. It’s like reading a tract from the 1950s.
Not finished yet. The first 2 to 3 chapters were promising, a bit simple and jumping to conclusions but it was okay to read with some skepticism (like you do with some stories from the middle ages). From chapter 5 it starts to sound and read like a conspiracy theory. Thinking about dropping this book soon but I wish to see it through just hoping it'll get better
Over the past fifty years, Christians have been routinely told that science and the Bible do not mix. According to them, a person cannot believe any part of science if they believe in Christ and vice versa. What if that's wrong? What if there are places in the Bible that completely agree with and support, even predate, science? This is indeed the case. Do you know what they are? If not, maybe it would be worth taking a look at this book.
