Leaders like Winston Churchill taught us to be courageous, to rise strong, and embrace fear. Steve Jobs was not absence of fear, yet he triumphed over it. Now, based on research conducted by the author, Emilio Iodice shows us how to put their ideas and those of other leaders into practice so we can step up and lead. “Success is not final, failure is not it is the courage to continue that counts.” Winston Churchill “The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” Nelson Mandela “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Walt Disney In this book, Emilio showcases people who overcame fear. It covers the great and the unknown, the rich and famous and the forgotten men and women who truly made a difference in our world. The book is organized in three From the President to the fisherman, the peddler to the baseball player, to the nun and the holy man in India, each needs courage to lead by themselves. Their words, their lives are as meaningful to us today as they were decades ago. Your time is limited, so have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. This book is for anyone who wants to step up and into brave leadership.
I was a little unsure about this one at first, but it blew me AWAY. I'm sort of a history buff, which I inherited from my dad, who I am going to gift this book to! But this is not just a rehash of a history textbook. The author delves into the successes of these leaders, and how/why their accomplishments came to me. Clearly, not very easily! There's so much important guidance in this book that can benefit all of us which I plan to reference from notes I took.
Highlights: loved the inspirational quotes, bullet-points/layout of the stories, and the messages that resonated with me.
Reading about some of our world's key leaders was incredibly inspiring and motivating. Their passion, courage and visions... I'm no Oprah or Lincoln, but I feel that I suppress my own leadership skills out of insecurity and lack of confidence. I know I have what it takes to live my authentic life and make a genuine contribution even if it helps just one person. And even if I have to take the smallest of baby steps.
This quote sums it up perfectly: "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life...And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition." Steve Jobs
When Courage was the Essence of Leadership isn’t about physical courage, we have all seen this attribute, but about an inner courage that promotes integrity and propels one to knowledge. Emilio Iodice boldly states that just because someone is in the position of power does not mean they posses true courage.
With many stories, quotes, and essays of great men and women, I stand in awe of the wisdom and empowerment wrapped up in one book. Everyone can find someone whom they would like to emulate and adapt their character in their own life.
With the history of many men and women laid before us in this book, I would have to say the story of “Babe” Ruth is my favorite. Iodice recorded the more important pieces of “Babe’s” life and the love of the man that changed his life and set him on his road to success. Even those who knew him best admired his drive to live big.
There are too many instances where we find ourselves surrounded by bad news which only makes it normal that we may allow ourselves to be consumed and destroyed by its negativity. In his latest book, Mr. Iodice succeeds in providing us both a guide and an image of hope. He takes us through a journey of history to mention the times where through many doubts and uncertainties, some of history's greatest leaders took a stance even if unpopular or dangerous. When Courage was the Essence of Leadership teaches us those important values of patience, honor, and challenge that are all too easy to forget.
This book is about courage. The reason that courage is important and how it helps to shape the successful leaders of the future along with the leaders of the past. The idea of courage making success is really simple to understand. Those with the courage to be brave and step forward and show the way or lead the people down the right path are the ones we look for in a leader. I would recommend this one for the view points of the novel. Good read.
