A Girl Called Nikki
By K. L. Davis

It’s not easy being a teenager, and when the passage to adulthood is paved with sex and drugs, it makes the coming of age even more difficult for those involved. It may be true that one monkey doesn’t stop the show, but when several drug-addicted primates climb on the backs of a couple of teenage girls, the show must stop.
Nikki, Brenda, and Shay are all seventeen and beautiful, but sadly caught up in living secret lives that no one their age should be living. From prostitution to pregnancy to a forbidden love affair, they each have a monkey to get off their own back. ‘A Girl Called Nikki’ is a tragic tale that depicts the lives of three best friends who become separated by addiction. From the author of ‘A Brother’s Secret,’ K. L. Davis brings you yet another gritty, tear-jerking storyline that will have you burning the midnight oil.
When Shay’s mother was killed by a drunk driver, this left her to be raised by her father, a novice junkie who would do anything for his next fix, including pimping out his daughter’s best friend. The only comfort Shay has in life is the forbidden love affair she shares with Rahim. While Shay struggles to keep secrets concerning her relationship, her friend Brenda’s problems are ones that aren’t as easy to hide. Strung out on heroin and pregnant, Brenda fights daily with the fact that she will soon be a teen mom by a man who does not want kids at all—especially ones who will be born addicted to heroin.
The loss of innocence for these young women begins with bad choices and from a willingness to follow the actions of Nikki Bradley, the most experienced of the threesome. Streetwise and intelligent, Nikki has baggage of her own, which lands her in a brothel in Miami to work off a debt she incurred under Marcus—one of the most notorious drug dealers in Virginia.
Three young girls—with three different struggles for survival—will start a chain of events that will change all of their lives forever.
K. L. Davis never ceases to amaze me with her descriptive technique of delivering a reader drop dead in the thick of things . . . Storytellah
K. L. Davis takes you on a fast-paced journey through the lives of impressionable young girls who each experience a loss of their innocence to the streets. In a story full of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat, secret lives will unfold as you read the dramatic story of ‘A Girl Called Nikki.’

" A Girl Called Nikki" was my first read by Author K.L Davis. It is the story of three girls who's lives are changed over the course of one summer. Shay, Brenda, and Nikki have their whole lives ahead of them ,but when one of them makes the wrong decision, they find themselves in some very dangerous situations.
The story was a fast paced read and the way it was told was a breath of fresh air. There were a few problems with editing towards the end that made it a little hard for me to keep up with what was going on but I truly enjoyed the story and it was definitely a tear jerker!!!!! Hoping there is a part 2 coming soon so that I can see what happens to these characters next!

I thought this book was just okay. Not a 5***** read but a good attempt for the new author. This book was all over the place and often lost my place of what was really going on. I also think that book was not appropriately titled as the focus of the book was not completely on Nikki. There was no closure at the end, I felt as though it was very incomplete. I don't know if this was done intentionally to leave room for a sequel or not.
