The book i am reading is called “Smoke” and the Author is William Corbin. I could not find the reading level of lexile level of this book. The book is about a boy named Chris and he finds a dog in the woods behind his house and he takes care of the dog and it becomes his dog until the real owner comes to reclaim him. So Chris takes Smoke and they both run away into the woods so he would never lose Smoke. The story takes place in Oregon on a small little farm. The main characters or Chris, Cal Chris’s step dad, Mom, Susie Chris’s sister and Smoke the German Shepard. When Chris was walking Smoke his mom came outside to see Smoke and when she got close smoke sat down and stuck out his paw and his mom shook it and that helped because his mom knew that he wasn't going to be a bad dog and she wanted to keep Smoke now pg 150 “He looked back at her for a moment then lifted his paw and held it out to her. What a diplomat now he’s got me on his side.” Another thing that helped the story was when Chris was calling Mr.Stone he said that it was Susie that made him change his mind if Susie did not say anything they would have to give Smoke away. Pg 250 “ Really you're little sister who brought me to my senses.” I recommend this book to people who like dogs and adventure. The book wasn’t hard to read. My favorite character is Susie because she speaks her mind and doesn't really care who hears it. She is a very good actor especially when she faked falling off the tire swing and she wiped grease all over herself to make Mr. Stone feel even worse to come take Smoke. One of my favorite parts in the book is when Chris is opening the can of cold beef hash and Smoke starts drooling and Chris starts calling him a pig. I would also reccomend this book to people who like comedy.
