The gift of prophecy has always invited some degree of opposition and controversy. It is one of the most vivid displays of God’s presence and power among his people. Many, however, struggle with the very concept of prophecy. They are troubled by the possibility that God may have direct access to our minds.
Very good read, very inspiring. A bit repetitive, but then maybe we need the repetition in order for the main messages to get across. Some good practical tips too. Read it as part of a sermon preparation, and will take many thoughts from it.
I personally found this a very interesting and balanced book by a pastor/author with tremendous passion for Jesus a huge heart for people. Sensitive and not wacky at all. Delivers quite a convincing blow to those who hold a cessationist position concerning the gifts of the Spirit. My third book on the topic (I've read Deere and Grudem previously on this issue) and I found this one complimentary to the others but adding a very insightful 'pastor angle' on how the gift of prophesy can and should function when God's people gather.
