The Switch 2001

A businessman was attending a company meeting in Chicago when all power fails. Cars and trucks stop, planes fall from the sky, and cell phones fail. Everything that has anything to do with the movement of electrons is useless. Not knowing the cause of the failure or how long it will last, he is forced to make a decision to sit it out in Chicago or try to get home to his wife in Alabama.

Unusual and interesting

A solar flare has extinguished all electricity. No cars will run or anything with an engine. This book is different because it is not a constant series of battles with escaped prisoners or gangs. I get tired of those stories. This is about how life would be lived after the apocalypse. I did worry about Bill’s second horse however.

It was classified as science fiction but really isn't. Mysteriously, everything that runs on electricity, and apparently, internal combustion, stops working. No real explanation for why it happened, and once the contrived pretense for the story is neatly out of the way it's really just a survivalist tale with a couple of right-wing jabs at Democrats thrown in.

Updated this book

And now it's not The Switch anymore. It's a book about a grandfather who goes missing. What's that about? What happened to The Switch?

Storyline is decent, but plot and action are very thin. The apocalypse is pretty much the best to ever hapen to the main characters. Some typos, misplaced or unused punctuation, but you can easily figure out what's happening. If you like light and fluffy, everyone lives happy ever after post apoc fiction, go for it.

Interesting!

Not quite give stars, the characters had things a little too easy. I would imagine there to be harder, more violent, times. The ending was innovative, and I think this one of the better "lights out" works of fiction.

Not bad

A few errors (CMJ instead of CME, he promised the wagon driver guy $500 then gave him that amount and said here's half of what I owe you) and while the story was pretty good, the dialogue was a bit stilted. Still, I want to find out what happens next!

The Switch is a post apocalyptic book written by author John Sullins. Several typos are noted. The storyline is pretty good but lacks depth.

Oki Dokie

I liked the book until the end. BUT.......oh boy,I guess we use our imagination. It was unrealistic, especially the bike ride.

A fairly basic end of the world type storyline which was quite predictable. However, still enjoyed the read & worth a look if the type of genre is of interest.
