My seven year old daughter got this book from the school library. I was worried it was a bit old and a bit heavy for her, so I read it myself. It is moving (I cried) and thought-provoking, raising questions rather than giving answers. I fear it is far too old for a seven year old and likely to cause quite some confusion as it may not be entirely clear to a young child what is actually happening in the story and what is in the protagonist's head. It would probably be a good book for a 9 or 10 year old, perhaps accompanied by some discussion with a parent or teacher.
