During my teaching years, I kept a copy of Desert Life by Barbara Taylor in my science section of my classroom library.

It was used in two ways by the children. A teacher would read it and discuss it with the children asking open ended questions to engang them in discovering things about the animals of the desert.

It also made a good reference book about desert environments for the years I taught older children.

The illustrations, picture are realistic and the notes beside each added insightful information about each species shown. I liked the glossary at the end to increase vocabulary for all the students.

Although this book is a little older it is a great non-fiction describing deserts. This book would be helpful when discussing terrain and other land forms.
