Fantastic
I have really enjoyed this book. It makes you feel like you are part of the story. I was so sorry when mom got kidnapped. But so relieved when Bear said he would want her no matter what, now that is a man. I can't wait for part two of this book. Great job Mr. Benton.

Enjoyable early western about the Sioux. 6 year old Samuel wanders from his family in a storm. He is picked up by a Sioux warrior and raised as a blond haired, blue eyes full Sioux. His father never stops searching and finally after 7 years finds his now Indian son. The adventure continues as they return eastward only to find two killers have escaped and kidnapped his mother. The rest of the story is retribution and the lead off into book 2.

A very entertaining western of the White Sioux warrior known as One Knife
This is an excellent western story of a five year old white child who wanders away from his family and is found by the chief of a Sioux tribe and raised by the chief as his own son. At the same time his natural parents known as Sally and John Anderson look tirelessly for the lost child. When the family narrowly escapes death at the hands of the Crow indians, they are forced off of the land which they bought from the Sioux, and the wife and her children are forced back to a safer area of the country. The father takes up the life style of a renowned trapper, who earns the name of Bear Claw for killing two grandfather bears in his years as a hunter and trapper. Yet he never gives up the search for his lost son, and eventually he locates him while visiting the Sioux tribe on one of his many adventures.
This is a grand old western that is packed with action, adventure, and explains the ways of the Sioux nation and the love that the white child develops as a Chosen One of his "red" people. Eventually he learns the ways of the white man while leaving his indian parents to meet his white mother and siblings. As he slowly begins to understand his vision and mission as spoken to him by The Great Spirit one is drawn deeper and relentlessly into the internal conflict that One Knife feels as he tries to understand if his role is to help his red or his white family. I genuinely loved this book. The author storytelling reminds me of the many great books written by Zane Grey that kept me enraptured during my adolescent years. I believe the collection of books written by Mr. Anderson will elicit the same response from my Grandchildren. Enjoy!
