I first discovered "A Goddess Is a Girl's Best Friend," by Rev. Laurie Sue Brockway more than a decade ago. I had received it as an "inheritance," when one of my clients, who used to attend the Tarot Lovers Club Meetings and Parties I used to facilitate. At the time, I remember reading the introduction, and doing the "Goddess Quiz" (based on Rev. Brockway's scoring system, I AM a "Goddess Expert").

I felt guided and led to finally read the book, and when I looked for it, I discovered that one of my cats had peed on it, and from the looks of it, more than once. I looked on the Internet, and found a copy. As soon as I received it, I began reading it.

This book, although written for women, is certainly readable by anyone who is not a woman. In other words, being a woman is not a requirement to being able to read this book; and I AM certainly proof of this. This book is light-hearted and a fun way of learning about different Goddesses from different cultures and pantheons, as well as how to connect with said Goddesses, as well learn from Them, receive Their favor, etc.

Each chapter focuses on very specific types of Goddesses, from Love and Romance, to Creativity, to Career and Finance and more. In addition, each chapter ends with an Affirmation one can use to "imprint" that Goddess's particular energy.

For example, for Kuan Yin, the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, Compassion and Forgiveness: "I forgive myself for any ways in which I have disappointed myself and others. And I forgive others for disappointing me." For the Goddess more commonly known as Isis, the Egyptian Goddess of Magick and Restorative Love, "I am in you. You are in me."

The book is also abundant with resources; some of them are no longer around, such as The Egypt Store, but some are still around, such as SacredSource.com.

Both the author and I share a deep love for one of the most beautiful Goddess-themed Oracle Card Decks available: "The Goddess Oracle: A Way to Wholeness Through the Goddess and Ritual," written by Amy Sophia Marashinsky, illustrated by Hrana Janto.

For the record, I found my copy on DiscoverBooks.com, but you could look for it elsewhere; you might find it elsewhere, too.

I found this to be a very practical book with much wisdom on how to handle challenges in life. It also taught me about goddesses and important female figures in different religions/cultures/philosophies. It argues that femininity/nurturing/motherliness are important values that our society underappreciates.
