Emmanuel Chabrier and His Circle

Rate this book
This masterful study of the ninteenth-century composer happily combines sound scholarship with good reading -partly a result of the ebullient nature of Chabrier, who warms the heart, and partly because Rollo Myers is a gifted writer who knows how to present his subject through effective anecdotes, well-selected letters, and striking musical examples that document a salient point. The man comes alive in these pages, as indeed does much of his times. the eight pages of plates and the music examples in the text augment the reader's pleasure in a fine book
