I can't believe there aren't any other reviews of "Fred's TV" on Goodreads! I just read this story from a friend who let me borrow it and loved the book. Fred is OBSESSED with watching the television. In fact, it gets so out of hand, that his Dad makes the drastic choice to unplug the TV and let it stay outside. The same night the T.V. is put outside, a huge rainstorm comes--not good for the life of a television at all. Fred is desperate to do something with his life. He isn't sure what to do now that the T.V. is gone. However, Fred finds a GREAT hobby because of his broken T.V. sitting in the backyard, hollowed out. Birds begin to flood the inside of the T.V. to eat bread crumbs. Fred notices the birds and wants to feed them more. Fred starts a great new hobby that doesn't involve television at all! Birds swarm the T.V while Fred feeds them crumbs and cornmeal through the remainder of a story. This would be an awesome book to share with young students who are stuck doing ONE thing, that may be mindless. Children can learn from reading this book that there are more things to enjoy in life, other than sitting in front of a T.V. !
This book is so good! It is about a boy who is obsessed with tv. He watches tv all the time, until his dad has had enough and takes the tv and puts it outside. The tv starts to attract different animals and this interests Fred. So he leaves food for the animals. Now fred loves watching the tv for a different reason..the nature. This was a great book!!
Fred is a good kid but he just can't pull himself from sitting in front of the television. Finally one day his dad gets so angry that he puts the TV in the backyard. Soon Fred finds himself watching birds make a home inside is broken TV set. This is a creative story and I love the message it sends to children.
This was one of my favorite picture books as a kid. It doesn't have a picture on Goodreads so I guess it isn't too popular yet.
It's about this guy who is addicted to watching TV and then when his TV breaks and he throws it out some birds start nesting in it. He becomes obsessed with bird watching instead. I've always wanted to see a cardinal after reading this.
Got lucky and found this book in a free library at a park in Charlottesville, VA. The cover and pictures inside are really cool and fun so grabbed it to read to my almost 3 yo son. He LOVED it. We both had a lot of fun reading about Fred's tv and junk food addiction, his angry dad, and eventually Fred's tv being a new home for his bird visitors. I can't believe this book isn't more popular.
All Fred wants to do is watch TV. When his dad finally has enough and throws the TV into the backyard, Fred begins to see the world a little differently.
