Cocaine! No one had even heard of it. Yet an unscrupulous doctor was using it to subjugate beautiful girls into prostitution. Worse still, he is using them for his own private experiments ? often resulting in their deaths!Luke Monteen knew it would be suicide to challenge the crooked marshal, his ape-like deputy, a fast gunman named Kolt, and the hundred miners that Count Sal Balducci could throw at him. However, when an innocent young woman cries out to him for help, he can?t walk away. With only a reluctant newspaperman, the parlor madam, and an Apache ? who is full of surprises ? to side him, Luke sets out to stop the medicinal slavery. It?s a time to kill or be killed ? it?s Armageddon at Gold Butte!
Didn’t think I’d ever read a western that featured cocaine and drug addiction. Some odd characters in this book and some surprises. I am glad Luke Monteen was an honorable man. The situation regarding a Deputy U S Marshall was hilarious.
