Short and succinct overview of the country during the colonial era, highlighting its natural and human environment. The author seems to be equally adept at painting with a brush and with words. Beautiful examples of his paintings are interspersed throughout the book, helping the reader along in a vicarious tour of the land as described in words. As development is only now accelerating, one hopes that most of the idyllic scenes in the book can still be seen today, though probably not for much longer.
