Introduction to the Prophetic Literature

Rate this book
What Rofe offers here is a student textbook in a questioning and thoughtful mode. He asks, for example, What stands between modern readers and their understandings of the prophetic books? Not that language alone constitutes a barrier. The reader is held back by what at first glance seems disorder within the books. There are doubts concerning the extent and nature of the separate units. Then there is the problem of identifying the is it the Lord or his prophet? Last but not least comes the question concerning the authorship and authenticity of the oracles. Rofe has not set out to solve every puzzle found in the prophetic books. Rather, he has attempted to exhibit the problems and riddles we encounter, and, by means of a few examples, has suggested ways towards their solution.
