Using conservative estimates the authors find that the value of military health care benefits can be quite considerable, ranging from hundreds of dollars per year for healthy single members to thousands of dollars for military families.
Dr. James R. Hosek is an economist whose research focuses on military recruiting, retention, compensation, deployment, personnel quality, and family well-being. Currently, he is an adjunct economist at RAND and a Professor at the RAND School of Public Policy.
Hosek was editor-in-chief of The RAND Journal of Economics from 1989–2018. Hosek received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.
