A wonderful compilation of short stories steeped in rich descriptions and engaging characters is what readers will find between the pages of Silhouettes of Time by Maya Mitra Das. The stories vary in length and content, but the writing is smooth and easy to digest. These are stories for the seasoned reader, tales for the newcomer and anecdotes for the in between. It will be hard to put these wonderful adventures down.
The incredibly talented Maya Mitra Das unveils her skills for us to consume in this collection. She regales readers with beautiful Indian landscapes, interactions with inquisitive young American minds and an overall swallowing desire to travel the world more and pay more attention to what goes on around us. There is no story that is better than the rest: they each equally capture the reader and share their lessons with us. Our dear author is an excellent narrator; sharing just what we need and omitting what we do not. That’s what makes the joy of reading short stories strong with this volume.
Short stories are nice because each allows you to disconnect from your reality for a short period of time. These are perfect for the lunch-room reader, the bus reader and the busy individual who may not have hours at a time to devote to a singular story. Each title is complete and well-developed so that the reader is satisfied when it is finished. These are perfect little worlds to get lost in when the time strikes. The only possible drawback to this book is that the stories end. Each captivating story leaves readers eager for more but patience is a virtue and we must wait for another collection to be released.
Maya Mitra Das is no stranger to having her words in print, however we are graced with a collection of her short stories in Silhouettes of Time. Each short story is compelling to read, engaging and wonderfully woven. She takes us to worlds we may have never seen before and evokes a deep desire to see more of the world: whether it be the world directly around us or the world beyond the horizon, chances are you will want to travel once you finish this book. It takes skill to evoke this reaction from a reader, so if you decide to add this book to your collection, you will not be disappointed.

Silhouettes of Time by Maya Mitra Das is a poetic and whimsical read that will take you on a magical journey. It is a short read that comprises a compilation of more than thirteen short stories that relate to time, space, and memory.
Author Maya Mitra Das is a fascinating writer and I found myself reading this book in one sitting. I enjoyed that each story had a different topic then the last making this a diverse read. The author's writing is clear, entertaining and has a smooth pace for a short read.
The story that I liked the most is one set in the past called A Lily Blooms in Summer. I enjoyed the dialogue between characters and construction of the story. The description of scenes, characters and time flow seamlessly making this an enjoyable read.
The author’s narrative is enjoyable because she gave life to many characters by adding interesting dialogues and by developing them while in the confines of keeping this a short read.
There are stories that made me laugh, others that made me feel emotional and others that were unique and exotic. I highly recommend this fascinating read!

Silhouettes in Time written by Maya Mitra Das is a book consisting of several short-stories. Maya’s style of writing is extremely appealing and easy to read. The stories are captivating, each character is lovely, and the writing flows so gracefully that it’s easy to read through and difficult to put down. This book can easily be completed in one sitting due to its page count and the fact that the reader will want to know what happens next in each story. Every story has a lesson attached to it making the book all the more appealing to me. It’s difficult to find books like that these days.
Maya does a fantastic job when it comes to descriptions allowing you to feel as if you are present in the story. The characters are engaging, the storylines are well thought out and executed and each story is entertaining. I am not typically a fan of short-stories believing that there aren’t enough pages in a short-story to make for a satisfying ending, but Maya manages to do so. The creativity shown in her writing and stories makes me excited to read other work written by her. Surely they will be equally enjoyable.
I would suggest this book to others. Five out of five stars. Well done!
